And I’m not mad at it. This was my first rodeo making homemade pizza with the least amount of effort possible. I unabashedly cut all the corners and even used expired ingredients. Hey, at least the flour wasn’t over a year old.
This cooking moment was inspired by the Bon Appetit Making Perfect Pizza series. But that recipe literally called for three different types of flour and a sourdough starter. As much as I am a Claire Saffitz Stan, I couldn’t justify quality ingredients on my first attempt at making homemade pizza. So I turned to Google for the Cliff’s Notes alternative to pizza dough.
I ended up taking the easiest elements from all the “Easy Pizza Dough” recipes I came across and made a Frankenrecipe. Easiest recipe with non-Whole Foods ingredients, combined with the easiest techniques. Again, cutting corners— the very essence of the cardboard pizza spirit!
Ingredients (I wouldn’t recommend making this, but you do you)
1 cup of warm water
1 packet of instant yeast
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cups of all purpose flour (not expired, if you can)
1 can of organic tomato sauce
1 ball of fresh mozzarella
1 pack of pepperoni slices
Yield: 1 medium pizza or 2 personal pizzas
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Combine warm water and packet of instant yeast.
- Add in granulated sugar and olive oil. Stir mixture.
- Slowly add in flour, until a dough forms.
- Roll dough to a quintessential pizza shape and transfer to pizza pan.
- Top the dough with 3-4 tbsp of organic tomato sauce, mozzarella pieces, and pepperoni.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes.
I can only go up from hitting rock pizza bottom. I need to research higher quality dough recipes that don’t require as much frou frou ingredients as the BA one, and let my topping imagination run wild. I solemnly swear I will avoid skipping steps for the sake of simplicity. Still, let’s not forget— I didn’t order takeout. A total win.
Thanks for reading, y’all! Excited to share more soon.
